Text - China Fragments
We wrote to the organizer of the exhibition:

Dear Joachim, some thoughts about "China Fragments"

Here we give you a short discription of our work for NÅDADA.
The work is called „China Fragments“ and it will be a work in progress.
We will change the Kunstkorridoren into a manufacture or maybe better into a manufracture, because we will bring more than
900 china vases which we will start to batter at the opening.
But the performance will not end that evening. The vases will be smashed on a block with a hammer.
All the single fragments of each
vase will be collected into a special plastic-box and hanged on the wall. From this shelf-system the boxes will be brought to a table where we will sit and clue the fragments to new forms, free of any function.
The niches (200 x 200 cm) in the wall of the gallery will be prepared with 100 nails each, on which we will start to hang the new products. As soon the last nail will be covered, our job is completed and we will leave the manufacture like it will look like.
Our working clothes will be hanged on the wall of the dressing-corner like every day after „Feierabend“
We think it will take about two weeks until the work will be finished.

Some thoughts about the theme :
China : the state; porcelain, chinaware.
The china-vases a symbol for cultural assets,
in the east aswell as in the west.
China „Made in China“, in a communist system for the western capitalistic countries shall still give the illusion of a worthwhile good. But it is a massproduct, available for a low price in the states with hard currencies.
Not for those who have to produce them.
Destruction :
Asks the question : „What is a value ?“
Construction :
Constructing things , objects without any
function relates to the conditions of art in general.
We create individual objects which are just
looking similar, but are unique.
Is art only art if it is a unique and expensive good, acquirable for a bourgeoise clientele ?
